The Fencing Project

Securing our community

Here at Red Machine Allotments we have applied and been successful with a number of grant applications. One of the areas for improvement identified early on was to renew the internal site fencing.

In 2014 the Association secured £15,000 from Sunderland City Council's Strategic Initiative Budget. This funding has allowed us to provide fencing around the new Wild Patch community garden as well as two of the three paths.

The project underway

It took another four years and a number of unsuccessful applications before The Big Lottery provided £10,000 through its Awards for All scheme. The Association still had to find an additional three thousand pounds. Discussion with the Barnes Ward Councillors resulted in them agreeing £1,500 match funding. The Allotment Association provided the outstanding balance.

The finished fencing

The new Fencing has created a safer environment, all paths now have greater accessibility and look great!
